Glass surface covering the complex was designed so that to ensure as much amount of natural daylight as possible. The whole interior, thanks to skylights based on brick walls, seems to be bathed in sunlight. Golden and almost white granite on the floor also makes tremendous impression and adds warmth to the interior.
Together with natural high palms and the design of a fountain, it creates the most unique city square of Krakow Three huge pavilions made from wooden beams and arched columns are located in main arcades, where one can find cosy cafes and patisseries. Small wooden bridges link the space, and the balustrades made from two kinds of materials (glass and metal) create a typical atmosphere of the city.

It is a part of Podgórze, historical district of Krakow, situated in southern part of Wisła shore. Since the end of 19th century, there was a Cement Factory, and, in 1948, State Factory of Chemical Fertilizers “Bonarka” was founded in that place. Part of historic devices were used in the new factory and, after some time, its name was changed into Chemical Plant “Bonarka”. The factory was finally closed in 2003.
Years of neglect, too much exploitation and lack of care, led to devastation of “Bonarka” area. In order to create a nice city building development for people, thorough area rehabilitation was necessary. It is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, rehabilitation after the former industrial plant in Poland.
The investment is located in Krakow, in Podgórze district, between Kamieńskiego street and Puszkarska street, in the area of the former Chemical Plant “Bonarka”. It is an example of integrated action in three fields: ecology, infrastructure and social function, and it is entirely funded by the investor.
As part of the action taken to prepare the area, the following activities have already been done:
-rehabilitation of the industrial area after the former Chemical Plant Bonarka, which includes demolition works (55 000 cubic metres), elimination of settling tanks filled with waste (calcium fluoride, circa 210000 tons), elimination of hot spots and leveling works. Costs incurred by the investor amount to 11,6 million EUR ;
Alteration and development of water-pipe and sewage system, drainage system as well as heating and gas plant around the centre. So far, the cost amounts to over 300 thousands EUR;
Alteration and development of communications system around the centre, connected with city road infrastructure, which will definitely facilitate appropriate access to the whole complex. It will also have a positive influence on the investment areas of circa 30 ha around Bonarka project. All road investments, funded entirely by the investor, will be handed over to Cracow City. Costs incurred amount to over 16,1 million EUR.
